I had my first mission and am happy with the assignment that I’ve been given! Currently, I’m staying in Community of Beto with my two companions, Domingas and Camelia, and with three sisters, Sr. Lucia, Sr. Dina, and Sr. Gela. I’m truly happy and enjoy the mission, especially with the kindergarten pupils. We all have our tasks to complete. I’m working with one of the teachers, Teacher Elda (kinder II). These children come from different backgrounds – since they were new, they long for or are looking for their parents, some are very quiet while some are thrilled to attend classes. Their little faces light up when they learn something new, and it’s heartwarming to see them moving forward developing their skills.
As I watch them learn and play, am reminded of the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment. It’s a privilege to be part of their educational journey, and humbled by the trust their parents have placed in us. Sometimes we may lack patience, but reminded of my time with the late Sr. Rosario Afoan, O.P. some seven years ago when I was a student. Now, I am Sr. Teresinha, the child in her Sr. Rosario’s time. I tell myself to be patient and try to love and care for themamidst challenging moments. This experience was wonderful, and I’m grateful for the lessons I learned from Sr. Rosario Afoan. Her guidance and patience inspired me, and I’m striving to provide similar care and understanding to these children. I’m learning to balance structure and play, discipline and compassion, and it’s a beautiful journey. I’m discovering the value of flexibility, creativity, and empathy in teaching and learning from this experience, thankful for the opportunity to grow and serve.
The children bring joy and energy to our community, we are blessed with trust, support, and encouragement from my companions and the sisters. Together, we’re making a difference in the lives of these children. They are not just learners, they’re gifts from God, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to care for them. As I reflect on my time here, I’m reminded of the importance of patience, kindness, and compassion. I’m excited to see what the future holds, and as Dominicans, we are committed to provide a nurturing environment which fosters growth, harmony, enabling environment, and progressive thinking .
In this mission, I’ve come to realize that teaching and learning are not just about academics; they’re about forming relationships, building trust, and nurturing an integral child. It’s a challenging but rewarding journey, and looking forward to seeing the impact we’ll have on the lives of these children and the community.
