Listening to the inspiring talk of Fr. Wilfredo Manalo Samson SJ, I was reminded that Noah’s Ark is not just a story of survival—it is a guide for how we can live and strengthen our community today.
Noah’s Ark is a school of life. Every plank of wood, every pair of animals, and every drop of rain carries wisdom for us today. If we want to rekindle our community, we can learn from Noah’s journey.
Noah’s journey teaches us:
- Don’t miss the boat
Noah acted when God called. In our community, opportunities to serve—whether visiting the sick, helping a neighbor, or joining in prayer—are like boats passing by. If we hesitate, we miss them. Rekindling community means seizing the moment to be present for one another.
- Plan ahead
Noah built the ark before the flood. Likewise, we must prepare our hearts and our community before storms come. For example, strengthening bonds now—through shared meals, prayer circles, or simple conversations—will carry us when trials arrive.
- Stay fit
At 600 years old, Noah still had work to do. Rekindling community reminds us that no one is too young or too old to contribute. A child’s smile, a youth’s energy, an elder’s wisdom—all are vital pieces of the ark we build together.
- Ignore the critics
Noah faced ridicule, yet he trusted God. In our time, choosing unity, forgiveness, or generosity may seem “foolish” to some. But rekindling community means staying faithful even when misunderstood, because love always outlasts criticism.
- Travel in pairs
The animals entered two by two. We too are not meant to journey alone. Rekindling community means walking side by side—supporting one another in prayer, in work, and in joy. A community thrives when companionship is cherished.
- Ark vs. Titanic
The ark was built by an amateur, the Titanic by professionals. The difference? Trust in God. Rekindling community is not about perfection or expertise—it’s about faith, humility, and obedience. Even small acts of kindness can achieve what grand plans without love cannot.
- Trust God through the storm
The flood did not last forever. Our storms—conflicts, misunderstandings, hardships—will pass too. Rekindling community means holding on to hope, believing that God’s rainbow of promise will shine again.
Reflection for Daily Life
“No matter what the storm, when you are with God, there is always a rainbow waiting.” This means that difficulties—whether sickness, misunderstandings, or personal struggles—are never the end of the story. With God, storms become growth opportunities, and rainbows become signs of hope. In daily life, this rainbow may appear as reconciliation after conflict, healing after pain, or joy after sorrow.
Rekindling our community means living these lessons every day: being attentive to one another’s needs, preparing hearts with prayer, valuing every person’s gift, and walking together in faith. Like Noah’s Ark, our community can be a haven—a place where kindness dwells, burdens are shared, and joy multiplies. Let us rekindle the flame of faith, hope, and love, so that even after the storms, we stand united under God’s promise.
Thank you, Fr. Wilfredo Manalo Samson SJ, for reminding us that the Ark is not just history but a living call to faith, hope, and love. May we carry these lessons into our daily lives and continue to rekindle the flame of our community.
