Arriving in the Philippines has been, for me, an experience woven from wonder and fragility. Each day I wake up with the awareness of being in a different land, where sounds, gestures, and even silences have a different rhythm. Coming here with the purpose of learning the language and participating in a congregational formation course has been more than an academic goal; it has become an invitation to allow myself to be shaped, to humbly open myself to the unknown, and to dare to discover new ways of perceiving life and mission.
I don’t deny that fear has accompanied me. Sometimes it hides in the words I can’t pronounce clearly, in the insecurity of not understanding everything, in the difficulty of expressing what dwells within me. However, despite these limitations, I discover a profound opportunity: to learn from vulnerability, to listen more attentively, and to recognize that the language of the heart transcends linguistic barriers. In simple gestures, in welcoming glances and in shared smiles, I discover that human connection makes possible a dialogue that is born from the deepest part of our being.
The Philippine culture has welcomed me with a warmth that challenges me. It’s different from the Latin American culture I carry within my own history, but in that difference, I discover unexpected bridges: hospitality, shared joy, and faith lived in community. Little by little, I’m understanding that it’s not about comparing, but about contemplating, welcoming, and giving thanks. This experience broadens my perspective and invites me to live my identity as a Missionary Dominican of the Rosary more deeply.
It has been especially meaningful to see how the sisters dedicate themselves to the formation processes of teachers and students, focusing not only on their academic growth but also on their emotional development. This experience became even more profound when I participated in a week-long Social Emotional Learning (SEL) training. There, I recognized a mission that is not limited to transmitting knowledge but seeks to transform lives from within, cultivating empathy, resilience, and mutual care. I am especially grateful to the SOLIDARIDAD-IDP Foundation Inc, where Sister Nini carries out her mission, for providing this space for learning and encounter.
Today I recognize myself as being on a journey, grateful for all that the sisters allow me to experience and share. I walk with uncertainty, yes, but also with a hope that grows stronger with each experience. This time invites me to step outside myself, to broaden my heart and my perspective. And in that process, I am discovering that the mission is not only what I do, but what I allow God to transform within me, through each encounter, each word learned, and each shared gesture.
