THE DEMOLITION OF THE LAST TWO HOUSES WAS THE SYMBOLIC END OF THE 6 DE MAIO NEIGHBORHOOD

Residents said goodbye to the last two stalls in the 6 de Maio neighborhood in Amadora.

The last two tents began to be demolished in the early morning of June 8TH, 2021, in a process that lasted for several hours and was accompanied by the Public Security Police and the municipality of Amadora. More than 20 years later, the eradication process is finally complete.

The last house to be demolished was in the Fontainhas, Estrela D’Africa and 6 de Maio neighborhoods, neighborhoods where we, Dominican Missionaries sisters, have lived and worked since 1976.

Historic Day

It was a day made of thanksgiving, longing, supplication, sorrow, emotion, sadness and joy, memories… A day that calls for the reinforcement of our Faith and, therefore, to proclaim: “The Lord leads the march of this world, each day, and each instant. He is present; he is with us here because we are united in love.”

We thank the friendly people who joined us in these moments, sending messages, calling…
